The good news of the day come to steemit all the way from Crete, Greece!

Most of you might know Heraklion, heck I have been posted about it consistently!

You will probably not know that Heraklion is a smart city which tries to improve the lives of the citizens in smart ways, through digital means etc. _{This will be discussed further in a future post}

Yesterday, June 5th (World Environment Day), a special contest took place in Heraklion. The local cityLab, where 9 pioneer ideas were presented by civilians, with the main goal to resolve urban problems.

4 of the participants were selected and will represent Heraklion city in the 2nd Innovation Marathon that will take place in Athens from June 28th.

.1. N. Iliadis who invented a way that a motorbike can used distilled products (such as tsikoudia) or biogas as fuel

.2. L. Papadakis who has introduced CanBuddy, a mobile recycle bin with capabilities such as wifi, bluetooth, etc

.3. M. Kataki who presented an application that with the Gamification theory visually recognizes the premises and makes suggestions for the city visitor.

.4. M. Kalogeraki with a tour guide that can be adjusted at the interests, budget and available time of the city visitor.

I am really happy to learn such innovative efforts and I am a strong believer that our generation will try for the best.
