Arethousa in Heraklion, Crete

One of the prominent statues of Heraklion is Arethousa and Erotokritos, located at the Kornarou street which is named after the great Cretan Poet Vintsenzos Kornaros

If you walk past the street you will surely stop and look closely Arethousa, as she is leaning her hand to Erotokritos.

Erotokritos was one of the works that left a mark at the Cretan Renaissance. The poem refers to the strong, unfulfilled love between Arethousa and Erotokritos and was very popular ever since the 17 century, when it circulated in manuscript among the Cretans.

I wish to be able to write more information about the poem itself in the future.

For now, by posting the beautiful face of Arethousa & accompanying it with the voice of Nikos Xylouris I hope to transfer some nice vibes over .
