Dust Without Wind [photos] 📍 Crete, GR

The island of Crete is located in southern Greece. It is the 5th largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and the 88th largest island in the world.

Few times round the year, dust from Sahara is seen over the island and when there is no wind the atmosphere can be very dense. A few weeks ago, March 22nd - the concentration of the PM10 articles (according to meteorologists) exceeded the minimum levels and reached the 500 mg/m^3. This made it extremely difficult for citizens to be out, it was difficult to breathe and even driving should be done with caution.

You can see some images and a video here

Unfortunately it was impossible for me to take photos back then.

However today was another day of the Sahara Dust Phenomenon (although very light one). For the last 2 days the atmosphere has become somewhat thick again.

As the sun was going down, I was able to see it very clearly. It was then that I decided to leave everybody behind and take a short walk!

I am very lucky that my home is near the sea, so whenever I feel like it - I am there in only a couple of minutes.

This afternoon was one of the days that due to the dust in the atmosphere and the absolute absence of wind, it was really difficult to tell where the horizon line was.

This is how it looked like, what do you think?

The sea almost still, the sound of the waves were almost impalpable.

Walking a little further, I took a photograph of the beautiful, uninhabited island Dia which is very near.

The above is today's photo of island Dia and the below is shot on a clear day (slightly different angle though)

I think you can spot the differences!
