MOOC in Digital Currency with FREE Registration. Are you in?
Would you feel challenged to take a free MOOC about Digital Currency issued by a renown University ? Well, perhaps it is time to take this challenge and register for an “Introduction to Digital Currencies”, the first course of the Master Degree in Digital Currency. This course is offered by the UNic Blockchain initiative from the Nicosia University and if I may add .. the first accredited university to accept bitcoin payments.
Ok. So, what is a MOOC?
A Mooc is a Massive Open Online Course
aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as filmed lectures, readings, and problem sets, many MOOCs provide interactive user forums to support community interactions among students, professors, and teaching assistants (TAs).

What is the “Introduction to Digital Currency” by the University of Nicosia?
The Digital Currency MOOC is an introductory course offering both a technical and non-technical overview of decentralized digital currencies such as bitcoin, etheureum etc.
The course provides knowledge regarding what decentralized currency is, why it exists and why it has become so important nowadays. The broader economic, legal and financial context is also covered.
Can anybody enroll?
Yes. All that is required to enroll is your name, telephone, email address and at the same time you create your password for entering the online learning platform. After registering you have access to all necessary information. You only have to fill in a short survey regarding your knowledge of digital currency.
It is important that your English language is proficient, as the course teaching material is in English.
Is the course really free?
Yes, the course is free and you enter the course platform immediately after your registration.
Which language is used for the teaching material?
The official language is English.
When is the MOOC offered?
The course is offered twice a year, and will start coming February 2018.

Who are the course lecturers?
- Mr Andreas Antonopoulos, a Greek-British technologist and early bitcoin advocate. He is the author of the books “Mastering Bitcoin” and “The Internet of Money”
- Mr Antonis Polemitis, CEO of the University of Nicosia and a Director on the coordinating Board of the University.
- Dr Dmitri Apraksin, with an MSc in Management Information Systems from and a PhD in Economy (concentration MIS).

What else should I know?
- To complete the MOOC you need to complete the final exam (in April 2018) with a grade over 60%.
- In case you want to proceed with the MSc in Digital Currencies, credit is given for this course (assuming you have completed it successfully)
- After successful completion, you will receive a certificate that can be verified through the Bitcoin blockchain.

What is the course success rate?
From the (todate) 5130 students enrolled in 83 countries, only 872 (17%) have completed the course.
