The Mundane as Art Round Seven. The Theme is Rust! By the Old Dog aka @kus-knee

Rust aka Iron Oxide ...

I remembered this photo immediately after seeing the post by @skapaneas.

Here is a photo of mine which is close to 4 years old, marking a distinctive period of my life.

I tracked the photo immediately, but I could not help making some thoughts and thus, sharing them ...

It is a great contest by @kus-knee but why not learn something in the process?

So, lets ... shall we?

What is Rust? We see it everywhere, but how does it happen?

Rust is actually the common name of a compound, iron oxide. For iron to get rusted, it needs to be combined with water and oxygen. (Pretty common, huh?)

This is why it is actually very rare to find pure iron found in nature.

When water hits iron, the water combined with carbon dioxide (in the air) form a weak carbonic acid (elecrolyte).

During the formation of the acid, some of the water will break down to its components (Hydrogen and Oxygen).

The oxygen and the dissolved iron create iron oxide, while electrons are being liberated and cause reactions to other points of the iron.

This is usually a slow process but if combined with acid rain or sea water the presence of these chemical compounds speed up the process.

What is important to mention is that rust cannot be stopped so easily. It has to be totally removed, otherwise it will start the process all over again!

So, what is rust? A process that cannot be reversed. The only thing that can actually destroy the powerful iron is rust.

The positive side? It is preventable ... So my thoughts about it? Rust resembles sadness in a way....

Let us dust the rust that can keep us down.

Let us coat ourselves against negative thoughts and enter the New Year with a positive attitude

Thank you @kus-knee for giving me this chance, it has been a pleasure!
