Why do Steemians leave this platform?
Why do steemit users leave?
One of the very first things I was wondering since I joined Steem(it), was what this platform is doing to help user retention. I was wondering what we could do to help steemit grow.
Back then, it was not possible for me to understand the difference between steem & steemit.
The platform was/is not user friendly. (When I joined, steemit was one of the most visited ones, followed maybe by busy.org and a few others) .
It was very difficult to be orientated, very difficult to understand where you could ask questions or to search for tutorials. Even so, google made it very easy to find something, anything. Google and (admittedly) my favorite Greeks from @greek-trail.
But for finding answers, it is necessary that one first asks and takes the time to research and to be self-taught.
Knowledge about a subject is not inherited,it does not jut come and land in our heads.

I am sure you are wondering now So, what? Why is she mentioning all these?
I have been on steem for more than one year. I have met people who joined, people who left, people who returned .. everyone for their own reasons and goals.
It is understandable, there is life outside steem and there can be other needs and other priorities. Especially the last few months, most people choose not to be active due to the low rates of steem (People have mentioned it to me)
I saw yesterday a post by someone who was announcing that they would leave steemit, after the recent changes. That left me speachless, and I could not help but wonder what that person was thinking. Why would someone be here for a year, participate only with posting and barely with comments or support to other users, and then announce that they leave because of the changes?
This brought to my mind a saying by Nikos Kazantzakis
“Love responsibility. Say: It is my duty, and mine alone, to save the earth. If it is not saved, then I alone am to blame.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis, Ascetica, De redders van God en Symposium

I couldn't help it
I needed to know more, so I went over to that person's post and asked some questions. These will help me understand some things about what users think and what they should know before they join. Yes, everyone should be looking for information, but shouldn't we also help if we have this opportunity?
This is what I asked
Hi, thanks for making this post to inform us about you leaving.
I respect your decision and I do not wish to change your mind. People make choices, they have their reasons and they are responsible for every path they follow.
However, if you ever decide to drop by and see if anyone has responded to you, I would very much appreciate it if you could answer some (or all) of the questions below...
[1] I would be very interested in knowing how you got into this platform. Did a friend invite you? Did you find it yourself?
[2] What were your expectations when you first got here?
[3] Did anybody help, guide you through here? Did you ask for anybody's help?
[4] What did you do to accomplish your expectations? Did you have a plan?
[5] Why are you announcing the fact that you are leaving the platform? What do you expect from this announcements and why are you mentioning that the changes are the reason for you leaving?
[6] Where did you read about the recent changes? Did you have any queries or did you share any feedback regarding them? Did you know that here, each and everyone has a voice?
[7] Did you know that there are other front-end platforms that have not been affected by the recent steemit change? (like busy.org, partiko and many more?)
[8] During your participation in the platform, did you visit other people's profiles, posts? Did you interact with anyone else? Or did you expect people to visit your posts first?
[9] Do you use any other steem based app?
[10] What would you say was the most difficult thing you found here?
[11] What would make you come back?
[12] Do you monitor steem rates?
[13] Do you use other social media networks? (blockchain or not). If yes, could you share some with us so that someone can follow you there?
[14] If you had guaranteed very large upvotes for every posts here, what would you be posting about?
[15] If you knew that there many communities and nices, oriented to art, photography, science, open source, fitness, gaming and more, would you be interested in knowing more?
Thank you if you managed to read to the end and thank you in advance if you take the time to answer any of my questions.
I wish you health, success and luck for your future.
Katerina
Thank you
One of the (many, oh too many) things I love about steem is the fact that I can express myself and exchange opinions with other community members.
So, thank you for bearing with me and please feel free to let me know your thoughts.
Is there anything else you would ask?
Do you think that he will reply?
If someone does not request for help, should we take time and offer to help them?
What I know is that alone, there is few places we can go. We need each other, we need to share thoughts and grow together. United we grow, divided we shall fall.
